Sometimes your home needs a clutter purge, and sometimes, you have to clean out your home before putting it on the market. No matter the reason, paring down your things doesn’t need to be an ordeal. We’ve made decluttering simple— here are some quick tips to clean out your home. Go PaperlessWhile transitioning to a 100 percent paperless household is virtually impossible, making strides to reduce paper in your life will work wonders for organization. Most stores offer email receipts, and many online bills and shops offer the same. Avoid physical mail when you can, and promptly recycle any junk mail that comes in. For the papers you do need, like birth certificates and vehicle information, keep them well organized in a safe place. Set Goals and Stick To ThemDecluttering doesn’t require one day of intense, exhausting work. In fact, decluttering works best as a lifestyle change. With that in mind, don’t try to overhaul your home quickly; just set goals for yourself and your family and create a plan to achieve them. Make progress a little at a time and before you know it, decluttering will be a mindset and a habit. Donate What You CanYou can’t always avoid throwing away some of the items you don’t want to keep, but try to make that the exception to the rule. Instead, donate old clothes, toys, and trinkets to local thrift stores. Additionally, check whether you can recycle any of the items you would throw away—landfills are full enough as it is! Prioritize OrganizationGenerally, the desire for decluttering is a desire for greater organization in your home and life. While you reduce the amount of stuff you have, ensure you focus on organizing the things you keep. Even a house free of papers and extra clothing can feel cluttered if the things you keep aren’t in their proper place. Now that you know these simple tips to declutter and clean out your home, start organizing and enjoy a stress-free living space. Donating items while decluttering really sounds like something that I can see being a good idea. Trying to sell things and tossing the rest definitely doesn't feel right with me as it feels like we're trying to profit off of our laziness with the hoarding we've done over the years. I'll make sure I work with a dumpster rental so that we can properly dispose of useless items and donate the rest.
