5 Most Common Items Left Behind in House Sold As-Is

One of the great benefits of selling your house to Direct Property Buyer is that you can take whatever items you want and just leave the rest of the stuff for us to deal with. Shortly after closing on the purchase of a house, townhouse, multi-unit, or condo, we’ll call in the experts to sort, then donate and remove items left behind that need to be discarded. Here are the top five items left behind in the homes we’ve purchased over the years.

1. Food
When there’s not often time to move refrigerated and frozen food before it spoils. It’s also a great time to walk away from a pantry full of expired canned food. When inheriting a kitchen full of food, we’ll donate any canned food that isn’t expired.

2. Tools
Heavy table saws, vintage drills, many containers of screws and nails. If a seller is downsizing or moving to a condo, it’s a great time to leave these old tools behind for us to deal with. Once in a while, there’s something our crews can use, but usually, most items are donated.

3. Garbage
The basement and attic may have items that have been ruined due to floods and temperature changes. Typically, these items have been sitting for years and need to be discarded. It can be chairs, tools, wrapping paper, or anything else that the seller thinks may be able to be used again. Also, it could simply be piles of trash. 4. Furniture
That old “Davenport,” as my grandparents called it, flowered print chairs, old dining sets, and water beds are all common items left behind. 5. Holiday Decorations
If a seller chooses to leave some things behind, it surely will include Christmas lights, some Halloween yard items, and seasonal wreaths. Many of these haven’t been used in years, but there may be some that have been on the house as recently as last season. For some reason, this opportunity to leave unwanted things behind usually includes some decorations.
