Time to come out of hibernation! Here are the exterior projects you can add to this weekend's to do list.
1. Charge Up Your AC for the Season HVAC companies are scheduling these appointments now. Don't wait until July when everyone else realizes their AC needs maintenance. 2. Check Out the Driveway and Sidewalk Hard freezes and temperature fluctuations are hard on concrete patios, sidewalks, and the driveway. Take note of big cracks or heaving so you can plan accordingly. 3. Wash Windows You'll remember how much more light can be let in by simply cleaning both sides of your windows. Have double-hung windows? Do both sides from inside. 4. Clean Gutters Out Even if you cleaned your gutters late in the fall, it's likely that more leaves and junk made its way in there over the winter. And, since it's sat there for months it's become a solid hunk that blocks the free flowing water away from your house. Here are some fun tools to help make the job easier. 5. Check Sprinklers and Set Up If you're lucky enough to have an in-ground sprinkler system you'll need to get it set up for the season. The water needs to be turned back on and all heads and settings should be tested. 6. Paint and Caulk You'll probably notice the house and decks don't look quite as good as they did before the snow hit. Caulk those joints around the window if you see it pulling away. Just wait until it's warm enough for the paint to stick. Painting when it's too cold will result in flaking painting in the near term. 7. Rake the Grass A simple raking will clean up natural debris left over the winter as well as fluff up the grass to allow for better growth. You may want to test that lawnmower out too as mowing isn't far away!
